Where to stay
Where to stay for a walking weekend
For a walking weekend, the best base is one you can walk from. These places are within about a kilometre of a walk on this site, or say you can walk onto the hills from the door.
Three things make a walking base work. Position: a start on the hillside saves driving and parking twice a day. Practicalities: somewhere to dry kit and leave muddy boots, an early breakfast or a packed lunch. An evening: food on site, or a pub within walking distance.
The table compares what each place says on its own website. A dash means it isn’t stated there, not that it isn’t available, so ask when you book.
