Tips for choosing

  • Cattle, sheep and ponies graze the hills and commons, and can be met anywhere. The Malvern Hills Trust’s Stockwatch page and weekly email say where they are. Keep dogs on a lead near livestock.
  • Ground-nesting birds use some areas in spring and early summer. Keep dogs on the paths.
  • Take water for your dog. There is very little on the ridge.
  • Check a pub or café welcomes dogs before you go. Policies change.
  • Quickest: St Ann’s Well from Great Malvern (30 min). Longest: Grand Traverse: Ledbury to Great Malvern (8 hrs).

Making a weekend of it?

The most practical base for this walk is Malvern Wells: hillside village between the town and British Camp, close to the central ridge.
