The first
Malvern Visual Arts Festival
was held during the week :-
        June 24th to July 2nd 2000

The Festival presented a week long celebration of the Visual Arts for the people and by the people. Exhibitions and demonstrations, courses and lectures were featured in the Town Centre in 20 different venues.


Exhibitions covered a wide range of visual arts, painting sculpture, photography, embroidery, jewellery, quilting and many crafts. There was an open prize competition in one of the classic Victorian Mansions of Malvern, a competition for the best sixth form work from the schools in the area with a bursary of £500 was presented by Malvern Art Club, one of the oldest in the country. Crafts were well represented, with many exhibiting in the fifteenth century Priory Church with its magnificent stained glass. Both professional painters from the area and amateur groups took part. Artists painted in the open and a community painting for charity was produced. The Town presented a colourful centre piece to the beautiful backdrop of the Malvern Hills Another painting Talks, demonstrations and courses were an important part of the Festival. These ranged from lunch time talks on painting to teatime and evening talks on sculpture, miniatures and jewellery. Week end courses were run at Malvern Hills College and accommodation was arranged through the Tourist Office in the many comfortable hotels and B. and B’s in the area.
