Walkers are Welcome
The Malvern Hills offer the best walking in the Midlands! Enjoy walking for a day, weekend or a short break in The Malverns where Walkers are Welcome!
The Worcestershire Beacon (1,394 ft) is not only the highest point of the 9½ mile long chain, but is also the loftiest peak in the county. For walkers who prefer a lower level of walking, Castlemorton Common, the Severn Way and trails around the town are all recommended.
The Victorian town of Great Malvern has changed little over the past century, but it is well endowed to cater for the needs of today's walkers - accommodation, banks and cafes not to mention various pubs, restaurants and shops.
The top class Malvern Theatres complex presents high quality productions, many of which are destined for London's West End, and provides a perfect way to relax after a day's walking.
Great Malvern is an ideal base for a walking break or longer holiday. The town itself boasts half-a-dozen excellent hotels. There are numerous B&Bs and guest houses to satisfy the most demanding of guests.
The Walkers are Welcome organisers have created a series of walks linking the town and the hills. Some walks are less well-known, but each affords excellent walking and superb views - weather permitting. It is claimed that on a clear day, thirteen counties (pre-1974 boundary changes) can be seen from Worcestershire Beacon's summit.
Another innovation is the Walkers are Welcome Inn Trail by which walkers can follow a route that takes in various pubs in and around the Malvern Hills. Walkers are Welcome takes a responsible attitude towards alcohol consumption and the walk is not intended as a pub crawl.
The Malverns are conveniently situated within an hour's motorway drive of three major conurbations - the West Midlands, Bristol and South Wales.
Walkers are Welcome promotes the use of public transport whenever possible. The Malverns can be accessed from three 3 rail stations - the Victorian gem of Great Malvern (complete with Lady Foley's private waiting room - now a tearoom), Malvern Link and Colwall, on t'other side of hills. A series of 'track and trail' linear walks have been developed between each of the stations, which are intended to dovetail with train schedules - although, much will depend on the pace of respective walkers!
Walkers are Welcome has teamed up with First Great Western for rail passengers. The train operator has rebranded the service between Oxford and Hereford as the Cotswolds & Malverns Line. This service passes through not one, but two separate Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty - The Cotswolds and, of course The Malverns.
We hope that you will enjoy your stay in The Malverns where Walkers are Welcome!
