'The Malvern Hills - a source of inspiration'
The new exhibition at the Foal Yard Gallery is a collection of landscapes from seven different artists all of whom have been inspired by the beauties of the Malvern Hills.
The artists taking part are Judy Foulsham, Paul Powis and Sara Hayward from Worcester, Tia Lambert from Malvern, Malcolm Brookes from Bromsgrove, Ian Shearman from Gloucester and Huw Jones from Wales.
These artists have chosen to work in a variety of media; watercolour, brush & ink, acrylics and oils, and have also taken very different approaches in their portrayal of the landscape.
Gallery owner Jeremy Cornwell says:-
'Judy Foulsham's
watercolours are impressionistic almost dreamlike, a great contrast to Tia Lambert's brush & ink sketches which are very immediate, placing the viewer on the hillside with the wind whipping over the grass.

Painting from life using acrylics, Ian Shearman (see page header picture.) captures a sense of the scale of the hills under big open skies, whereas Malcolm Brookes has chosen to focus in intimate and fascinating detail on the wildlife and hedgerows that he observes whilst out walking in the Malverns.

Paul Powis and Sara Hayward use
acrylics and oils to create work that although representational, leans towards abstraction in its composition and subjective use of vibrant colour, whereas Huw Jones expresses his sense of the ancient landscape through subtle textures and tones.'

Many of the contributing artists exhibit widely throughout the UK and indeed abroad. Tia Lambert's work has been shown at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition; Malcolm Brookes is the Vice President of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists and is a regular exhibitor with them and with the Royal West of England Academy - as is Ian Shearman; Huw Jones has had work selected for the 'Welsh Artist of the Year' Exhibition and the work of both Sara Hayward & Paul Powis has appeared in numerous publications, Paul's work has been exhibited in the Museum of Modern Illustration in New York and Sara has pieces in the permanent collections of Jesus College, Cambridge and Worcester City Museum and Art Gallery.
