Venture—Adventure
Enjoy the spirit of adventure and look
into the heart of the Air training Corps
Every Air Cadet will tell you about the sense of adventure linked with all outdoor exercises. Whether it be a day–exercise, night–exercise or weekend.
New skills are learnt, safety is of paramount importance and good field crafts become essential. Training is carried out in relation to map reading and the Air Cadets learn how to use radio communication.
Good planning is required not only in relation to routes and location but also in the equipment needed and the choice of clothing. Computers are used for internet based research and as all Air Cadets are provided with the appropriate items to wear on exercise the organisation of the clothing stores becomes very relevant at this time.
Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme
The Air Training Corp is the largest user of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme in the United Kingdom.
With the provision of excellent facilities, the Air Cadets are already taking part in the most exciting of adventure training such as abseiling, rock climbing and trekking to name but a few and therefore the opportunity to add the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme to their achievements is an added bonus.
The aim of the Air Training Corps is to encourage young people into actively doing things that will build and enhance their life skills from making friends through to participating fully in team activities.
